European Super League
Here we go again….the concept of a breakaway European Super League has made the headlines again this week, supporter groups throughout Europe are strongly opposed to the concept. The Football Supporters’ Association has issued a robust rebuttal :
We should have no doubt about the threat that such a league would have to the English football pyramid; anything that consolidates wealth in the hands of a few ‘super rich’ club owners further restricts the trickle-down effect of money through our enduring football pyramid. There will be no requirement for Super League clubs to contribute towards the support of the English football structure; local pitches, junior football, women’s football, and much more rely on funding via the FA, the European Super league would threaten to rob the wider football community of this much-needed funding.
The owners of our ‘super rich’ Premier League clubs couldn’t care less about junior football, they have no interest in whether your daughter, or son, has a decent pitch to play on this weekend.
The owners of our ‘super rich’ Premier League clubs couldn’t care less whether clubs like Southend United remain in existence.
The European Super League was always dubbed the ‘Greed League’, nothing in these latest proposals changes that position.
