Trust responds to Jeff’s letter
As a Supporters’ Trust, we welcome the letter published by Jeff Shi on Thursday evening. We feel that there has been a lack of communication over the last few months which has led to frustration and confusion for fans, with both Julen Lopetegui and Matt Hobbs making differing statements. It seems there have been changed expectations as the summer has progressed.
As a Trust, we would welcome increased communication from the club’s senior management. We feel that Jeff's letter lacks a vision for Wolves, and we would like to know what their ambition is.
It's been clear that Fosun has invested significantly since buying the club 8 years ago. We are only a Premier League Club today because of their investment.
We are pleased to hear that Fosun is still committed to the club, with the club not openly for sale. However, as a Trust, we believe that any club is up for sale at the right price.
The statement from Jeff doesn't address our concerns over Molineux and the clear lack of investment. We urge the club to look at the redevelopment of Molineux as a way of improving revenue streams, this would help with financial sustainability. Refurbishing and reconfiguring the Steve Bull Stand would help raise revenue with increased hospitality and seating.
There has also been a lack of comment on the Women's Team and what the current financial restrictions mean for them. We are concerned that the Women's team will fall behind other comparable clubs at our level, without significant investment.
It's clear the club is operating under tight financial conditions. As a Trust, we believe the club needs to be run sustainably and to stay within the rules.
It's clear from Jeff's statement that we overspent last year, particularly in January. Whilst there will be a big debate over the value of the players signed, it's a fact that we have overreached financially despite selling a number of players within this current window.
As supporters, we hope that some additional players can be brought in before the deadline; loans with an option to buy have served the club well over the last few years, and we would urge the club to explore all avenues to strengthen the squad.
As a Trust, we hope to have the opportunity to work more closely with the club as our Chair, Daniel Warren, is joining the new Fan Advisory Board.
Now that Jeff Shi has spoken, we would welcome further comment from Matt Hobbs about our recruitment plans and from Julen Lopetegui to confirm his commitment to Wolves.
We are expecting another tough season, but we will we get behind our team and be the 12th Man. We look forward to the new season.
