Wolves 1877 Trust holds talks with club about Wolves Women

The trust was pleased to be able to hold discussions with the club focusing on Wolves Women and the tremendous progress made by the team over the last few seasons. Wolves Women currently play in the 3rd tier of the national pyramid (FAWNL – Northern) and are riding high in the league after a long unbeaten run.

A recent FSA document highlighted that there are now an estimated 3.4 million women and girls playing football, an uptake of more than 54% since 2017. Whilst Women’s football has a golden opportunity to grow, creating a self-sustainable football pyramid, it is important not to focus all resources on teams playing at the top level. Encouraging diversity, and inclusion, at all levels of the game is one of the key focus areas for supporters’ groups as the Women’s game grows.

The trust held a very positive meeting with Laura Nicholls, Head of Academy Operations, Max Fitzgerald, Head of Media and Dave Wood, Fan Services Manager discussing a wide range of areas focused on Wolves Women. Nick Andrews-Gauvain who is the trust representative for Wolves Women said ‘’it was great that the club engaged in these constructive discussions about the development of Women’s football at Wolves. The progress being made by the Women’s team has led to several challenges for the club, it was great to hear directly about how things have improved and future plans to continue support for the development of the Women’s game at the club’’

The trust hopes to encourage more supporters involved in following the Women’s game to become members, FSA representative Ciaran Barker said ‘’We have initiated discussions at both club and national level, looking at ways in which we can best represent supporters in the fast-growing Women’s game, it was really interesting to hear directly from the club on their plans for Wolves Women’’

The trust will continue to update members as the season progresses, hopefully culminating in promotion. With the upcoming Women’s international versus Germany at Molineux, now is a great time to take in a Women’s game either at Molineux or at a Wolves women home match at the CKW stadium, Castlecroft – upcoming fixtures can be seen on the club’s website - https://www.wolves.co.uk/fixtures/wolves-women/

Tickets for the international can be purchased via the FA’s website - https://ticketingcontent.thefa.com/Arnold%20Clark%20Cup%20-%20ENG%20v%20GER
