Wolves Fan Engagement plan

As a result of the ongoing campaign by supporter groups across the wider football community, the Premier League has agreed a Fan Engagement Standard for clubs. This Premier League initiative is a direct reaction to the publication of the Government White Paper that brings forward proposed legislation for an independent regulator for football (IREF). Whilst this is a welcome ‘first step’, it is both long overdue and lacks any real compulsion upon clubs to engage with supporters in a meaningful way.

However, our club, Wolves, embraced this initiative through dialogue with Wolves 1877 Supporters’ Trust and other representative groups. The club have now published their own Fan Engagement Plans, including for the first time a Fan Advisory Board. The management team at Wolves should be praised for taking a positive approach; we look forward to continuing our constructive ongoing dialogue.

Trust Chair, Daniel Warren said: ‘‘The Trust are pleased to see the Fan Engagement Standard introduced, we continue to talk directly with the senior management at Wolves we welcome the progress made’’

The Premier League’s Fan Engagement Standard has the following key inclusions:

  • Fan Engagement Standard - all clubs to include a summary of the aims, values and objectives of the Club in respect of fan engagement.

  • Nominated Board Level Official - Identification of a senior ‘board level’ person responsible for fan engagement.

  • Fan Engagement Platforms - Details of the platforms that the club will use to engage with supporters.

  • Fan Advisory Board - establishment of a Fan Advisory Board, including supporter representation.

  • Collaboration - Commitments by the club in respect of collaboration with fan-focused organisations.

  • Heritage Assets - Agree through fan consultation a list of heritage assets that will require fan consultation in event of a material change being proposed.

  • Transparency - Details of the way in which the club will bring transparency to the fan engagement process.

Wolves will publish their own ‘Fan Engagement Standard’ covering all of these key points including a commitment to introduce a Fan Advisory Board for the start of the 2023/24 season.
